What Do I Need to Rent a Car in Mexico?
Renting a car in Mexico isn’t much different from renting a car in the US, Canada or Europe, and yet people sometimes have frustrating misunderstandings when it comes time to pick up the rental car. Here, we have a quick guide to what you need (and what you don’t need) to rent a car in Mexico.
Mexico car rental requirements
Everyone who wants to rent a car in Mexico will need:
• Valid driver’s license from your home country
• International driver’s license if your original is written in non-Latin characters
• Photo ID if your license doesn’t have a photo
• Usually minimum age of 25 for the driver
• Credit card (not debit card)
• Mexican Personal Liability Insurance (PLI)
What you don’t need in order to rent a car in Mexico:
• Any other type of insurance, including Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) (which may be offered by your credit card company for free – not mandatory but recommended) personal accident, supplemental liability, etc.
